The last Misson Parish election took place on 6th May 2010. The majority of parish councils in England are not divided on 'political party' lines but exist to represent local people on local issues. Decisions made by the council are decided by a simple majority vote of councillors at public meetings. Misson Parish Council meets on the first Wednesday of each month. There is not normally a meeting in August. Misson Parish Council consists of seven elected Councillors. In addition to attending the regular monthly meetings councillors will also attend sub-committees and undertake other work on behalf of the council. An individual Councillor may be elected by the council as a representative on other bodies such as the local school governing body. A Parish councillor may be contacted directly by a member of the public with a genuine local concern. The Parish Councillor will raise that concern to the council at the monthly public meeting. Who can be a Parish Councillor? The full story (click here) To put yourself forward for election as a Parish Councillor, you must; i) Be an Elector within the parish. or ii) For the whole of twelve months preceding the date of election; a) Have lived within the parish or within three miles of it. or b) have your principle place of work within the parish. iii) be a British Subject, Citizen of the Irish Republic or a Euro National. You cannot be a Parish Councillor if the following applies; i) you are employed or paid in any other way by the council. ii) during the past five years have been declared and remain bankrupt. iii) Convicted of a criminal offence and have received a sentence greater than three months without the option of paying a fine, during the last five years. The above is a simple explanation of the main points to consider but you may wish to study the full document before standing. Your Councillors are there to represent you. Should there be any parish issue that you feel is not being addressed then contact a councillor and ask them to raise your concern at a parish meeting. He moved to the village in 1986 and has served on the Parish council for over 8 years. Prior to the parish council he served on the Village Community Association. Chris represents The N. E. Bassetlaw Forum on three committees at Robin Hood Airport; The Community Sub Committee, the Noise Monitoring Committee and the Health Inpact Group. He has assisted greatly in the development of the current parish plan following the largest consultation undertaken by the council to date. He has lived in the parish for over 25 years The parish council values the work undertaken by its wardens and voluntary officers. The Parish council extends its thanks to the Parish Plan Action Committee, now dissolved, which was responsible for the development and the administration of the Parish Survey. is divided into Wards and each ward elects a District Councillor. District Councillors commonly represent a political party but may stand independently. The job is to represent your Ward at the Bassetlaw District Council.

The Misterton Division extends north from Clarborough to Misson and east from Scrooby & Ranskill to Misterton. County Councillors commonly represent a political party but may stand
independently. The job is to represent you at the Nottinghamshire County

independently. The job is to represent you in the House of Commons, Palace of
Westminster. Your MP is full time and salaried and will represent you on
personal matters with regard to local and national issues. The

Parliament. Misson is within the East Midlands Region which elects five MEP's.
MEP's commonly represent a political party but may stand independently. The job
is to represent you at the European Parliament at Brussels and Strasburg, it would appear that they couldn't come to a
decision on one place. The parliament meets
