Noise &
Pollution
Smells
For many years Misson Parish council has, in conjunction with
Bassetlaw District Council, monitored the Tunnel Tech factory with regard to the unpleasant
smells emitted from the site. The surrounding parishes including Misson meet
together with Bassetlaw officials and the directors of Tunnel Tech. However,
there has been only a small improvement throughout the past fourteen years.

Large state of the art factory buildings.
New regulations published by DEFRA (Department of
Environment for Rural Areas) come into effect 1st March 2007 requiring Mushroom
substrate producers to aerate and enclose the first part of the process. The
first part of the maturing process called the pre-wet phase is considered to be
the main cause of the smell. Till now the pre-wet mix has matured in the open on
concrete pads looking likes rows of manure. The new regulations
give the licensing officers of Bassetlaw District council the powers to
ensure compliance. So far Bassetlaw have failed to implement the new
regulations. For the full DEFRA regulations follow this

Mushroom Substrate Regulations .
If you live within the Parish of Misson your observations will be invaluable
when presenting sufficient evidence to Bassetlaw, particularly if backed up by
dates, times and the level of the smell you have experienced ( use a factor of
1-10, 1 being low. Use this email link: julianproudman@bassetlaw.gov.uk or Tel. 01909 533171. and speak to him directly
Subject to the new regulations Tunnel Tech must achieve a control of the smells such as to contain them
within the boundaries of the factory site.
Noise
As part of the Minerals
extraction plan that each authority is required to undertake a number of sights
around Misson have been identified and are being worked. For the residents of
the parish this means dirt, noise and reduces the condition and the safety of
the roads owing to the additional use by heavy lorries.
The Hanson
Quarry, Bawtry Road, Misson
Hanson have met with the Parish
Council and do their best to comply with the planning conditions but the
disturbance and the damage to the roads from heavy lorries is inevitable as the
sand and gravel is transferred via the Bawtry Road through Newington onto the
wash plant at Blackston.
